Florida football freshman Vernell Brown III made a game-changing one-handed catch in the final minute and a half of the second quarter during Florida's 55-0 season opener over Long Island University on Aug.30—his 41-yard grab set a freshman record—while drawing praise from coach Billy Napier. He became only the third true freshman to start and finished with 79 receiving yards, boosting the Gators in a strong win.

Gordie Wilson led the fort in Downtown St. Augustine for 33 years and will retire on September 2. He started as a National Park Ranger in 1978 and became superintendent in 1992—weathering hurricanes, shutdowns, and historic changes during his service.
