About this event
5 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Hours
How might our teaching change when we consider the experiences people bring into the room, and recognize that we may never know their stories?
Join Jamie Stanish, TCTSY-F, RYT-500, YACEP, for a five-hour foundational training exploring yoga through a trauma-informed lens. Together, we’ll consider how our language, pacing, classroom environment, and relationships can support students’ choice, agency, and connection with their own bodies. And it might not be what you expect. This method is not about tiptoeing around triggers or telling painful stories about trauma. It is about meeting people where they are, and finding opportunities to grow the window of tolerance.
Through education, discussion, reflection, and experiential learning, we’ll explore:
• Foundational trauma theory and nervous system responses
• Interoception: noticing sensations within the body
• Invitational language and meaningful opportunities for choice
• Consent, non-coercion, and teacher–student power dynamics
• Ethics, boundaries, and scope of practice
• Practical ways to integrate trauma-sensitive principles into everyday classes
Drawing on Jamie’s training in Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY), this workshop offers a starting point for ongoing learning. You’ll leave with concrete approaches to begin applying within the style of yoga you already teach.
Open to yoga teachers and teacher trainees in St. Augustine and the surrounding community. No previous trauma-specific training is required. Movement and personal sharing are optional; you will not be asked to disclose personal trauma experiences.
What to bring: Please bring a yoga mat, something to take notes with, and any snacks you’d like. We recommend eating lunch beforehand. Light refreshments will be available.
Registration: $125 early bird through October 31; $150 beginning November 1.
Continuing education: Eligible for 5 Yoga Alliance continuing education hours. A certificate of completion will be provided following full attendance.
This foundational workshop does not provide TCTSY certification or qualify participants to treat trauma.
Listed by Intera Yoga (Wix Events), gathered by the St. Augustine events calendar.
