Hotel Alcazar – A Guided Tour

About this event

Henry Flagler’s Hotel Alcazar (Lightner Museum) – A Guided Tour

The Hotel Alcazar was commissioned by Standard Oil executive Henry Flagler and it was completed in 1888. Designed by the renowned architectural firm of Carrère and Hastings, it was Flagler’s second grand resort hotel in St. Augustine. Initially conceived as an entertainment annex for the Ponce de Leon (now Flagler College), the design was revised and expanded to create an independent hotel.

Inspired by the elegance of European resorts, Flagler helped shape St. Augustine into a winter retreat for America’s elite, building magnificent hotels that provided visitors with modern comforts and extravagant leisure. To attract its wealthy Gilded Age clientele, the Alcazar featured an alluring combination of exotic architecture, modern amenities, sports and entertainment facilities, and fine cuisine.

Come and enjoy a guided tour of this historic building.
