CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, residents can see the pink moon at 8:22 p.m. EDT, the first full moon after the spring equinox—its rising key to setting Easter on April 20.  The St. Augustine Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Florida law lets landowners kill green iguanas humanely on their property and on 32 public lands without a license—residents must follow rules that ensure the animals lose consciousness immediately and then have their brains destroyed to avoid any suffering. People who use iguanas for meat must also dispose of the carcasses properly to prevent fines.  The St. Augustine Record
  • Hal Needham, an extreme weather scientist, said that although seven of the top ten storm surges hit the Gulf Coast, the First Coast remains at risk because its shallow waters and curved shoreline can trap floodwaters—communities here could face dangerous surge conditions if a strong hurricane hits.  First Coast News
  • Hummingbirds are migrating from Central America to the U.S. now as warm weather brings blooming flowers and more may soon appear in St. Augustine. Hummingbird Central released its 2025 migration map showing the birds gain extra weight for fuel and fly about 23 miles a day—information that helps locals know when to watch them.  First Coast News
