  • Richard Lucas, a St. Augustine man who credits a Jacksonville addiction hotline operator with saving him from alcoholism, is organizing a fundraiser to help her fight a chronic illness and secure a new apartment for her family. Now five years sober and set to become an attorney, Lucas uses his story to inspire others and show that kind acts can change lives.  First Coast News
  • The Betty Griffin Center held its 2025 Run for Peace 5K on Anastasia Island to raise money and awareness against sexual abuse. Over 500 runners and volunteers—led by CEO Kelly Franklin—participated in the event and received medals at the finish line.  The St. Augustine Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • Since opening in October, the Capybara Cafe in downtown St. Augustine has drawn animal lovers who pay $49 for a half-hour to cuddle with capybaras and enjoy other animals like a skunk, wallaby, and armadillo. Owner Stephanie Angel said the cafe supports Noah's Ark Sanctuary Inc.—and she plans to open another location in St. Petersburg soon.  First Coast News
