  • On Sunday, a car flipped onto its top on busy San Marco Avenue after hitting a parked car near Borillo’s Pizzeria — the driver and her dog escaped safely while first responders helped on scene.  First Coast News

  • A 44-year-old man broke into a home naked using a tree branch on April 15—when residents hid and called 911—and deputies later arrested him after finding drugs, firearms, and $85,000 at his nearby residence.  First Coast News

FINANCE NEWS

  • An FBI report showed that Florida residents lost over $1 billion to online scams in 2024—seniors were hit hardest by investment and cryptocurrency fraud, and new laws let banks delay suspicious transactions to protect them. This data signals a growing threat as fraudsters use the internet to trick people out of their money.  The St. Augustine Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 25, the Florida House approved a tax break package that would eliminate all 62 tourist development councils to cut property taxes, a move local tourism officials say will hurt the county’s main income source. St. Johns County leaders warned that shifting funds from the TDC to lower property taxes will bring a devastating trickle-down effect on local businesses and tourism — a change they believe will lead to serious economic challenges.  The St. Augustine Record
  • Governor Ron DeSantis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on April 28 from sunrise to sunset to honor fallen law enforcement officers statewide—this order applied to all local and state buildings and included a memorial service at 10 a.m. ET in Tallahassee.  The St. Augustine Record
