  • Planet Swim will expand operating hours and programs at Solomon Calhoun Community Center’s pool starting soon with Monday-Friday hours from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—seniors, veterans, and children pay $2 and adults pay $3; the contract was approved on April 7.  The St. Augustine Record

EDUCATION NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Forest Service reported 103 active wildfires burning 15,587 acres as of 7 a.m. April 28 amid severe drought that has led to burn bans in 45 counties (including many in the Panhandle and northern areas).  The St. Augustine Record
  • Local drivers notice lovebugs, nonhazardous insects that appear as paired swarms during Florida’s warm months. The insects become active from 10 a.m. until dusk, so residents are advised to clean their cars within 24 hours using simple methods (for example, wet dryer sheets) to prevent paint damage.  The St. Augustine Record
