- ➤ Rescue agencies SAFE Pet Rescue and SMART recovered 19 chihuahuas abandoned on CR 204 in South St. Johns County and are seeking homes for the rescued dogs — authorities continue investigating and trapping for the remaining ones. First Coast News

- ➤ According to NOAA, the Saharan Air Layer (a dusty air mass from the Sahara) is expected to reach Florida soon, bringing vibrant sunsets while reducing hurricane risk yet worsening air quality for residents with respiratory issues. The dust usually appears in mid-June. The St. Augustine Record
- ➤ Since Jan. 1, Florida's severe drought fueled almost 2,000 wildfires that burned over 120,000 acres; on May 7, the National Weather Service issued red flag warnings in 13 counties (including St. Johns) and officials advised motorists to use caution as smoke reduced visibility.
