EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Johns County schools will end the 2025-2026 academic year on May 29, with classes resuming on Aug. 10. Across Florida, districts set varying end-of-year dates (some closing as early as May 22) to match local scheduling needs.  The St. Augustine Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge halted Atlantic red snapper fishing for recreational anglers beyond three miles off the east coast, effective May 22, while the Gulf Coast remains open for Memorial Day weekend. HEALTH NEWS

  • Memorial Day weekend marks a busy start to boating season, so local boaters are urged to wear life jackets and check gear before leaving the dock (small oversights can lead to serious problems on the water).  The St. Augustine Record
  • Yesterday, the Ringhaver family donated $75 million to help expand Mayo Clinic’s Lee Ringhaver Tower at its San Pablo Road campus and support plans to add clinical, research and education space in Northeast Florida.  Historic City News
  • Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup sold at local Whole Foods and online was recalled after manufacturer Kettle Cuisine reported the product may contain undeclared shrimp (which can trigger allergic reactions).
