ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • 12-year-old Parker Anderson—wounded in a critical e-bike crash near Julington Creek that left him unconscious for two days and in the hospital over a week—has bounced back and inspired nearly 90% of local riders to wear helmets as St. Johns County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday to discuss a proposed ordinance banning e-bike use for children under 14.  First Coast News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A WalletHub study ranked Florida's economy 17th for 2025 with a score of 53.01, showing strengths in economic health and activity but weakness in innovation potential—state lawmakers worked out a budget framework after delays.  The St. Augustine Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Effective July 1, elementary and middle school students are banned from using cell phones during the school day while high school students may use them outside of class if a teacher directs—a law signed by Governor DeSantis. Six districts will pilot a full day ban to test its impact on behavior and achievement—with findings due by the end of 2026.  The St. Augustine Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City and county officials will remove nine derelict boats from the Matanzas River and Salt Run over the next two weeks — a project costing $83,600 in taxpayer money that may see some funds recouped through restitution efforts. Authorities say the project will improve boater safety and protect marine life.  First Coast News
