EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida school districts removed books labeled as pornographic by state officials after local superintendents faced pressure to comply; counties including Orange, Osceola, St. Johns, and Santa Rosa took steps to remove or restrict these titles—some board members raised concerns about First Amendment rights. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Florida will see high temperatures in the upper 80s to mid 90s on Juneteenth—east central areas could reach a heat index of 105—and some parts of the state may get showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.   • Experts held an Ask Me Anything on June 12 to answer Florida residents’ questions about the 2025 hurricane season—covering hidden insurance costs, cuts to weather services, and risks from warmer Gulf waters that may boost storm intensity.   • County officials approved a $13.5 million plan Tuesday to retrofit and add space to government offices—addressing crowded facilities at the morgue, elections office, and courthouse for two new judges. The plan includes a $6 million addition to the Medical Examiner’s Office and conversion of a former jail into sheriff administration space—helping the county manage its rapid growth.  First Coast News
  • St. Augustine will begin its milling and paving project on June 23 and warns that vehicles blocking resurfacing may be towed at the owner’s expense *on-street parking is prohibited Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with work pausing from July 4 to July 6 and resuming on July 7*.  The St. Augustine Record
