  • Port in the Storm Homeless Youth Center will host the Keys of Hope Gala June 28 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Ancient City Farmstead—raising funds to support its housing, food, and job-skills programs for homeless youth in St. Augustine.  The St. Augustine Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Johns County will distribute 14,500 free pre-filled sandbags over three days—June 24 at Butler Park West and Smith Road Storage Facility, June 25 at Solomon Calhoun Community Center and Vilano Beach Boat Ramp, and June 26 at Mills Field and Palm Valley Bridge South—from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and residents must show a valid local ID and are allowed only 12 sandbags per vehicle.  The St. Augustine Record
  • St. Johns County is planning a public hearing to review a proposal that may raise garbage fees from $254 to $334 in 2026 and $394 in 2027 to cover higher fuel, labor, and disposal costs — county officials say. The county remains under contract with FCC Environmental for solid waste collection for six years.  First Coast News
  • St. Augustine Police will deploy heavy metal barricades on Fourth of July to prevent vehicles from driving into the crowded pedestrian mall on St. George Street—City Manager David Birchim said the measure follows a recent incident in New Orleans. City officials will evaluate the barricades during the celebration and may use them again for Nights of Lights if they work as planned.  First Coast News
  • Floridians are advised not to open their door to someone claiming to be police unless they provide a valid warrant and proper ID—using the door or phone to verify their legitimacy is recommended, as recent incidents in other states show the dangers of immediate entry.  The St. Augustine Record
