- ➤ The National Hurricane Center reported an area of low pressure off North Florida is moving westward into the Gulf today with a 10% chance of tropical development over the next 48 hours and 30% over seven days—Florida is forecast to see heavy rains that may lead to flash flooding and dangerous rip currents this week. - ➤ The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will propose a 23-day bear hunt starting December 6 with 187 bear tags across four zones and commissioners will vote on the plan during their Aug. 13—14 meeting in Havana. Animal welfare groups and polls show strong opposition—FWC says the hunt is needed to control the growing bear population and reduce human-bear conflicts. The St. Augustine Record

- ➤ On July 11, health officials confirmed 11 cases of Vibrio vulnificus in Florida, including two in St. Johns County that resulted in one death. The department warned that the bacteria can infect open wounds exposed to brackish water — residents with cuts should take extra care when near raw seafood or floodwaters. The St. Augustine Record
