CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, over 25,000 people will attend the ninth Sing Out Loud music festival at Francis Field—headliners and emerging bands are set to perform while twelve smaller local stages host free shows. Visitors from 49 states are expected to add a boost to local tourism.  First Coast News
  • St. Johns County celebrated a milestone when state leaders presented a $1 million check on Thursday to fund phase one planning for the Florida Museum of Black History at Collier–Blocker–Puryear Park in West Augustine. The museum will be built on West King Street near the historic Canright House and will feature exhibits, a research center, and a performing arts complex to honor over 450 years of Black heritage.  First Coast News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Florida law lets police ticket drivers for speeding through floodwaters and creating hazardous wakes that can harm homes and yards. In St. Augustine, drivers face a $166 moving violation and added license points—punishing unsafe driving—while authorities work to protect historic neighborhoods.  The St. Augustine Record
  • Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said nearly 18,000 products containing 7-OH—an extract from kratom that is 13 times as potent as morphine—were removed from store shelves after an emergency rule took effect in August, as officials work to keep these dangerous products away from kids at gas stations and vape shops.  First Coast News

  • Trevor Lawrence said he will focus on the Jaguars' game against the Texans after a hit by Azeez Al-Shaair ended his season — he said the past will not stop him from playing well.   • Beachside senior Maddox Hunstad called the team’s passing game the 'four-headed monster' after quarterback Eddie Jordan threw 33 of 45 passes for 535 yards and five touchdowns in the 35-31 win over Bishop Kenny on Sept. 18 — the Barracudas improved to 4-1 as they pushed their storied offense to new heights.  The St. Augustine Record
