- ➤ St. Augustine man Daryl Perritt continues his fight to repeal Florida’s ‘Free Kill’ law after his son died in Nov. 2024 when hospital staff did not provide needed care. He has bought a billboard near the Florida—Georgia state line and formed a political action committee to raise awareness and work with legislators for the 2026 session. First Coast News
- ➤ St. John's County Fire Rescue warns that lithium-ion batteries in e-bikes, scooters, and golf carts are responsible for most fires during Fire Prevention Week, which runs Oct. 5th to Oct. 11th. Local experts advise checking battery connections and using proper charging cords—short and correctly rated—to reduce the risk of dangerous overheating. First Coast News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Whooping cough cases in Florida rose 81% from 2024 with 1,295 reports as of Sept. 27, raising concerns among pediatricians who worry that plans to repeal vaccine mandates may put infants and unvaccinated children at higher risk—pediatricians are now planning to create their own outbreak alert system to better track cases and protect vulnerable groups.
