  • Habitat for Humanity will host a People’s Town Hall on Oct.22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living at 1795 Old Moultrie Road—local leaders will discuss ways to make housing more affordable—and everyone can attend for free.  The St. Augustine Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking Invest 98L — a tropical wave expected to develop into a tropical depression when it reaches the central Caribbean later this week. Florida residents should monitor weather updates as one forecast shows the storm may turn toward the peninsula.  The St. Augustine Record
  • Stargazers in St. Augustine can see about 20 meteors per hour tonight as the Orionid meteor shower peaks under a dark new moon. They should look southeast near Orion and NASA advises finding a dark location+a quiet spot free from light pollution to enjoy the display.  The St. Augustine Record
  • Sea turtle hatchlings are starting their journey across the sand toward the ocean at St. Johns County beaches while conservation experts watch closely—ensuring the young turtles safely reach the sea.  The St. Augustine Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Augustine will expand its free Park and Ride shuttle service for Nights of Lights, with shuttles running from 1 to 11 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 15 through Jan. 11. On Dec. 6, service will start at 8 a.m. for the Christmas Parade+ shuttles will serve key locations to help visitors reach event areas.  The St. Augustine Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Florida Department of Health implemented a new rule that revokes medical marijuana cards for patients convicted of illegal drug possession—over 160 patients have lost or risk losing access to their medicine and can reapply with a notarized affidavit after fulfilling their sentence.  The St. Augustine Record
