ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A swimmer in distress at St. Augustine Inlet was rescued at 6:30 p.m. on August 16 by St. Johns County Fire Rescue, Marine Rescue, and local police—officials said the swimmer was uninjured despite strong tidal currents.  First Coast News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hurricane Erin is a Category 3 storm with winds of 125 mph and is moving west-northwest—its growing size is forecast to cause dangerous rip currents and high surf along Florida’s coast from today until Aug. 21. The storm is expected to turn north after passing east of the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas.  The St. Augustine Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Dolphins won their preseason game and the Buccaneers also won while the Jaguars tied 17-17 with the Saints on Sunday. Travis Hunter did not play because of an upper body injury & the Jaguars will check if he returns to practice Tuesday.  The St. Augustine Record
  • Parker Washington scored a 7-yard touchdown on Sunday in the 17-17 tie with the Saints and posted 19 receiving yards while filling in as a starter due to inactive players—both coach Liam Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence praised his quick plays and strong performance as he takes on a larger role this season.  The St. Augustine Record
  • USA TODAY Florida Network updated its Top 100 list of Florida's best senior football recruits for the 2026 season on Aug. 17, and IMG Academy — which has 11 players — led the list as Miami, FSU, and Florida each had strong numbers; programs across the state will begin season openers later this week.  The St. Augustine Record
